How does the Super26 provide faster flow?

Faster flow is made possible by close attention and consideration to the fluid dynamics. The Super26’s design boasts a thin wall needle with optimum needle length, which allows for faster rates. The configuration is coupled with inlet tubing that minimizes resistance and luer connectors that are designed for the best flow performance possible.

Why is it better than the standard 24g needle?

Actually, the 24g still flows faster, but it makes a significantly bigger puncture site in the patient’s body.  The hole may do more damage, take longer to heal, is more painful to insert, and may lead to more site reactions.   We recommend using the smallest needle size possible to minimize these disadvantages. The Super26 flows fast enough to meet the highest flow rates required for the FREEDOM system to deliver HyQvia, Hizentra, and Cuvitru.   While 24g is still faster, it is not needed, and certainly not more comfortable than the Super26.

How are you able to reduce the number of sites with the new neurology indications for Hizentra using the Super26?

We recommend that you always follow the guidance of your physician and health care provider.  We hope that they will take into consideration that for patients that are new to subcutaneous infusion, it is both the flow rate and volume together that ensure successful outcomes.  The risk for site reactions increases with higher flow rates and higher volumes at the same time. Therefore, by slowing down the flow rate for initial infusions, it may be possible to use fewer needles. As the patient begins to develop depots under the skin, the flow rates may be increased up to the maximum of the drug labeling (found in package insert), thus demonstrating the full benefits of using the Super26.

What is the difference between the standard 26 gauge and the Super26?

The maximum flow rate of the Super26 needle set is three times that of the standard 26 gauge needle. This means that when using the Super26, the flow rate capability meets the highest flow rates of the drug package insert for both Hizentra and Cuvitru.

What makes HIgH-Flo Super26 "Super"?

We wanted to create a premium needle that flows similar to a 24G, but in a tiny 26G. We use superior fluidic engineering to maximize the flow rate through our system, meaning you get fast flow rates without the large punctures of a 24G needle. The Super26 is just one tangible example of how RMS puts patient comfort and safety first.

What configurations are available in the Super26?

We have needle lengths in 4mm, 6mm, 9mm, 12mm, and 14mm. We offer single, double, triple, quad, penta and hexa leg set configurations.

What is the maximum number of needles possible at one time?

We have tested up to eight needles at one time using our Low Residual Y-Connector to join two quadfurcated sets. The Y-Connector can also be used to make up a multiple set from a limited inventory, for example, creating a four site system using two of the bifurcated sets. A six site administration could be assembled by using two trifurcated sets and the Y-Connector.

How do I choose right needles for my patients (24G, 26G, Super26…)?

Needle selection depends on the type of therapy and drug the patient is using.

Is the needle still the same as in standard 26G needle?

The needle itself is still the same. The butterfly wings are also the same design, but blue instead of opaque to differentiate the needle sets. The main difference is in the tubing, which was designed to make the flow rate faster.

How is it possible to increase the flow rate without changing the needle?

To increase the flow rate, you can adjust the amount of needle sites and/or change the RMS Precision tubing set to a higher F number. We recommend using the RMS Flow Rate Calculator to find the time and rate that would work best for your patient.

If the patient is familiar with 24G needles, why should I change them to Super26?

Even if the patient is used to the 24G needle, we are certain switching to a smaller needle with very similar flow rates and infusion times would be appealing to them. Smaller holes and less pain upon insertion are huge benefits for the patient.
